  • description: This is definitely NOT your average canal holiday! In the final part of our Caledonian Canal adventure, we continue our incredible self-drive boating journey through the Scottish Highlands, cruising back towards Inverness and across the mighty Loch Ness. After reaching the western end of the Caledonian Canal, it’s time to turn around and begin our journey back — but Scotland still has plenty of surprises waiting for us! We cruise from Banavie across beautiful Loch Lochy before spending the night at one of the quirkiest places we’ve ever visited — a bar on a barge at Laggan, complete with swords, Scottish whisky and drinking from horns! 🥃😂 The Eagle Barge The following morning, a chance meeting leads to us being invited aboard a HUGE 180-tonne barge, where we get a fascinating look behind the scenes and even join them for a short cruise through a lock. Then it’s back aboard our considerably more petite vessel as we cruise through Laggan Avenue, across Loch Oich and descend the five locks at Fort Augustus before heading back out onto Loch Ness. We moor beneath the incredible Urquhart Castle, meet some Highland cows, explore a little more of Loch Ness and eventually make our way back to Caley Cruisers in Inverness. And just when you’d think our Scottish adventure was over… we finish it all off with a high-speed RIB ride and stay the night on a unique floating home. This really has been one of my favourite boating adventures and an incredible way to experience the Scottish Highlands. Huge lochs, mountains, locks, castles, quirky places, wonderful people and plenty of laughs along the way.
